Oh Lisa your test pieces came out wonderful! Mine didn't fare as well.

Can I ask a few questions from you??

What kind of clay did you use?

Did you brush or dip your pieces?

I used Laguna's White Dover clay and brushed my glazes on - and I didn't
care too much for my results. Please don't get me wrong, everyone else
liked them, but I was expecting something else.

My Oasis Blue wasn't near as blue as yours turned out. My Shino came out
the same as yours and my light shino was really nice as is the Archie's
base. I really like the green & blue shino - will be getting them soon!
I too would expect the eggplant to be more purple, but I do like what you
got also.

I have now switched to Laguna's B-mix so we will see if I get different
results with that clay.

Post more pictures - I love to see other's work!

Hi Bunny;

I use Seattle Sea Mix 5. It is almost white when fired. I brushed on 2
good coats of glaze for each piece. I think with the Shino's, brushing on
may work better because of the unevenness. I am sure dipping will be just
as wonderful (I haven't tried it) but the unevenness gives it a cone 10
reduction or even salt fired look in a cone 6 oxidation environment which I
think is super col!

The light blue and green shino's are my favorite. I have order some more
glazes to try out and will post them when I have tried them. I'll send out
a note to ClayArt when I do.

My Oasis Blue was super globby when I got it so I put my hand held blender
in it. It actually made the glaze quite thin so for that one I put on 3
coats.

Rachel Campbell has mastered Coyote Glazes and she used them exclusively
now. Her site is: http://downtothepottershouse.com/Gallery.html and her
stuff is beautiful!

Cheers,
Lisa

Lisa: Looks like you had some nice results. You might want to try a
thicker coat on your brushed pieces and see if you get closer to what
you expected. Try 3 coats rather than 2. It may be why the eggplant
didn't look as purple as you thought. If you have the small bottles of
glaze and can't dip, take a small test tile that will fit in the jar
and give it one dip and a second half way up dip and see if the coats
you get this way change things a lot. Happy glazing,
Jackie

Hi Guys,
The note below made my day (Thanks Lisa! :-)... but I have to say
that I have not by any means mastered Coyote Glazes-- just having
lots of fun with the 5 I'm using! (And I'll be REALLY happy the day
I can predict what Gun Metal Green will do-- it is gorgeous or
hideous, and I never know which it will be! I don't put the awful
results on my site, you know! ;-)

I was, however, thrilled and delighted to order all my glazes for
this year (I think) at NCECA-- gotta love Coyote's free shipping for
NCECA offer!

FWIW, I pretty much always dip or pour. I keep my shino a bit on the
thin side so that I can layer it to get variations, and also do a
good bit with altering the form, stamping or slip trailing to get
places for the glaze to pool to maximize the variegated, reduction
look. (I don't have the patience to brush it on thick enough to do
what I want. ;-)

Happy glazing! :-) Rachel in Odenton, MD
--trying to decompress after NCECA and driving my family crazy with
stories of all the amazing pots and people I got to experience this
past week. Pictures will follow soon.
