Could some one (downunder?) tell me the American equivalent to this clay?
I want to make a glaze that calls for Pittong Clay and Australian. PF. I'm
assuming any potash spar will work, but I can't find anything on the Pittong.

Many Thanks..

Hi Susan, I have found out this much: The clay that is mined at the Pittong
Mine near Ballarat, Victoria, Australia is a kaolin clay, so maybe another
kaolin would be worth testing.

Good testing,

The closest thing we have to Pittong Eckalite is EPK kaolin. I looked at
the analyses of both clays and they are very close. The alumina and silica
percents are the same.

Susan,

If you give us the composition of the Pittong clay, then it is not
every hard to develop a substitute. The same is true for the Aussie
PF - though depending on how widely off the average the Aussie PF and
the stuff you use to replace it are, trading one in for the other
might not have a very marked effect.

Tim

I expect Ivor who IS in Australia and is our current moderator will tell
you.....But I Googled PITTONG CLAY got info...It appears to be a kaolin
mined in Pittong, so I would use any kaolin on hand and test...
