setting reply address to "clayart"

I mostly love the way Clayart works, but a pet peeve is when people have the
reply address set to their own address, so that is up to anyone who responds
to their post to change the reply address to "Clayart" in order to have the
reply go to the list rather than just to the person who sent the original
post. This is a discussion list, and what the policy is on other lists is
irrelevant. Almost all the time, a reply to a Clayart post is intended to
go back to Clayart as part of an ongoing discussion, and thus that should be
the default setting. When someone wants replies offlist, they have only to
specify that and we will honor it. That is the exception, while responses
going back to the Clayart list are the norm.

I responded to two Clayart posts today where the post would have gone back
to the sender if I hadn't changed the reply address to "Clayart." One was
to the fuzzy chef, and he says that this is a listserve setting and he
doesn't have anything to do with it. The other was to Wes Rolley, and he
says that this is a setting in his own computer and he chooses to have it
that way.

I don't mean any offense to Wes, who's posts I always enjoy, but I think it
is inconsiderate to expect the responder to alway remember to change the
reply address to Clayart in order to continue the discussion on Clayart. By
definition, this is a discussion list involving group discussions where
other people have an opportunity to enter the conversation. To set the
Clayart reply address to your own email address is to deny that basic
premise.

Thanks for the chance to rant about something that occasionally bugs the
hell out of me.
