This workshop will explore the figure in clay using basic handbuilding
techniques. Personal and narrative interpretations will allow the works
created to have a spiritual connection between the sculpture and the
maker. The head, torso and full figure will be discussed. On day one,
students will build a life size head using coils. Adding and
subtracting clay for facial features will be demonstrated. Found object
impressions and mark making will be also be used during the construction
of the head. On day two, students will explore surface by the addition
of grog, ball clay and dry clay. A torso will be demonstrated and if
time allows, students will complete a small torso.
