hello..
=20
celadons are nothing but iron containing glazes.....NO magic. ( okay maybe =
firing magic helps.....?)
=20
NO MAGIC. Understand...? firing is important.....reduction in the firing at=
mosphere can make all the difference...
=20
BUT in the glaze formulation........just 1/2 percent to max of 13-15 perce=
nt iron oxide ( Red or Black iron oxide....whatever Fe203...etc) yields=
celadon to iron staturate glazes. 1 % is light /pale blue/green color in=
a transparent base in a reduction (gas) atmosphere.....2 % is darker green=
3% is olive green.....USW...

Check out Carlton Ball's # 15 transparent glaze with different % of iron...=
.. (now called laguna's Transparent)=20
=20
Celadon blue/green.......all the way to more iron.....Ohata Kaki (called...=
..ketchup, etc...).....dark deep brown/black colors. iron is a wonderful e=
xperiment to try. DO IT !!! it is just a scale of light to dark colors...=
.
=20
Have fun and DO YOUR OWN EXPERIMENTS!
=20
AND...remember that glazes do NOT travel.......because the raw materials =
vary from one area of the country/world to another.......it's a fact of 'ce=
ramic life'. Your glaze will be special to your environment. It is what =
makes our work special, I think. USA to Japan to China to Australia...to A=
frica....etc....
