I do all of my firing in a small Paragon test kiln. I only fire small work=
to ^5, so it has worked well for me. Unfortunately, I have watched my fir=
ing time get longer and longer. I stopped my last firing at 21 hours when =
^5 wouldn't even go down.
=20
I took my kiln to the Paragon factory in Mesquite where they checked it out=
and found nothing wrong. They fired it to ^8 in 10 hours and then again t=
o ^4 in 7-8 hours. =20
=20
Last year I had the voltage checked and, even on high, he electrician showe=
d me 119 volts on the line.
=20
I think I do have an electricity problem, but need someone with more kiln e=
xperience than just an everyday electrician. Does anyone know of a kiln re=
pair person in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that will come to the house and h=
elp me figure out what is wrong?
=20
(Just as an aside, Paragon tested my kiln by running it only on high. I do=
n't do this since I don't what to blow things up. When I asked them about =
this they simply replied "we don't suggest firing schedules". I was just =
trying to make them understand how I fire -- 1 hour on low, 1 hour on mediu=
m, close the lid then 1 hour on high before I close the peep hole.)
=20
Any help is greatly appreciated. I am amazingly frustrated with a kiln the=
I can't get to work (NEVER have I gotten it to ^8!) but the manufacturer c=
an. The weather is pretty and I want to get back to work!

I spoke to the technician who tested your kiln. He said it
drew slightly more than 18 amps. This means the elements are
like new.

Can you perform an ammeter test on your kiln?

Sincerely,

I had the same problem with a Paragon test kiln. The problem was never
resolved. If you do find out what's going on I would love to know.
