I shudder everytime I see a question related to these issues. The questions have a "heart tug" appeal and many want to "help" with suggestions. But, frankly unless anyone out there is sanctioned to help, our suggestions could be more harmful than good. That's why I shudder ... just my 2 cents here.

I totally agree that one should be "sanctioned", or have a
mandate to
provide treatment advice....none of us do so... ,that is
best left
to professionals in their respective fields of
specialization.

There are people on this list that offer suggestions and
advice
or opinions regarding many issues, they may or may not have
the
qualifications to do so, but they offer those suggestions
based on good
faith and underlying assumption that people reading the
suggestions
are aware that they are only "that"...opinions and
suggestions.

If there are shudders when one offers suggestions about
coping with
health issues, then there should also be shudders when
anyone posts
a plan for a new kiln, those plans can be extremely
dangerous if the
builders of the kiln do not have the technical knowledge or
expertise to
build it properly.

The list does, in fact, have many people on it who have
training in various
areas, and/or life experiences and opinions that can be
shared to show support
for those in similar situations.

Potter's with bad backs , health and materials toxicity
issues, recovering from radical breast surgery, and where to
seek assistance
for pottery related health issues are a few that have been
discussed in the past.

I have been a member of the list since it's inception and
have noticed
that most of those who post these "suggestions" , or ideas
do so with
caveats.

This is a very responsible group, and the moderator does a
superb job
of trying to make sure it stays that way.

I understand and respect your concern about the misuse or
misinterpretation
of such suggestions but feel that overall they do more good
than harm.

Respectfully,

Kathy McDonald
