coyote glaze tests

I recently purchase 6 pints of Coyote Glazes. I currently make my own
glazes but space is becoming an issue for all of the raw materials. There
has been some discussion on the results which I would like to share my
results and possiblibly get some feedback from Martin Butt from Coyote.

*Gun Metal Green* - This one didn't turn out anything like I expected. The
picture doesn't really capture it but it is mainly gun metal grey with hints
of green.

I brushed one coat on both the inside of the bowl and the test tile.
They both turned out different but nothing like it is supposed to.
Q - Should I be brushing on 3 coats to obtain the right consistency and
color?

*Eggplant *- Although this one turned out to be quite a lovely green with
purple breaks, it is definitely not eggplant:

Q- I brushed on 2 layers, should I brush on 3 - 4 layers to get the
proper eggplant color?

*Light Green Shino* - I absolutely loved how this turned out and it is
exactly what I expected & wanted:

Q - I brushed on 2 layers. If I brushed on 3 layers would the brown or
the green be more intense?
Q - I assume I am getting the difference in color because I am brushing
which is more uneven than dipping. If I were to purchase 10 lbs dry and
dipped my pieces, would I still get the same effects of the different colors
or only where the glaze breaks?
Q - Was this piece dipped or brushed on?

website gallery)

*Light Blue Shino* - I loved this one just as much as the light blue shino:
http://picasaweb.google.com/SunnyDazeDesign/CoyoteGlazeTests/photo?authkey=2X2ifbCN-N8#5033352069119344386
Q - Same questions as the Light Green Shino

*Shino *- I loved this one as much as the light blue and green shino. I am
in shino heaven!

Q - Sames questions as the Shino.
Q - Martin I assume you dipped this piece?

Thank you in advance for your insight and responses. I sent this to Clayart
also as I know there are others who may be interested in the results.

Hi Lisa,

I'm thinking that you don't have enough glaze on the tests you are
disappointed with. When I use a commercial glaze, I start with 3
coats. What does the bottle say to do?

Hi Lisa-

I too just finished up with some test glazes from Coyote, and I was a
little disapointed with some of the results, but after talking with Martin
Butt, owner of Coyote he gave me some tips. Apparently I, like you did
not put on enough coats.

>*Gun Metal Green* - This one didn't turn out anything like I expected.
I also go the Gun Metal Green and my test piece came out really nice, but
when it was fired on a piece, I apparently starved the glaze and it looked
awful. But I do think I will like this glaze once I get to know it.

>*Eggplant
I didn't ge the Eggplant, but it does look interesting.

Got this one, and I too really like it.

>*Light Blue Shino* -
Didn't get this one either, but I most likely will - very pretty!

*Shino *- I loved this one as much as the light blue and green shino. I am
>in shino heaven!

I also liked the Shino, but I was disapointed when I dripped some over
black - apparently I didn't put enough on, once again!

I am really glad you posted your pictures here and your honest results. I
guess just like anything else we have to test. So, back to the drawing
boards as they say!

Lisa,

I dip Gun Metal Green and Shino. The GMG can also be brushed but you need
3 coats to get the same effect. It runs a lot also so be careful on the
outside of a pot. Shino does not run and looks great dipped.
