more brent issues---???

This is a wheel with a reverse switch on it, specifically for left handed
people. I am trying to understand
what you are saying?
Since the company puts this switch on here to use, why not use it!?

What I am saying is stop the wheel using the foot pedal and then throw
the switch. To do it with the wheel running is very hard on the cheap
little reversing switch.

To do it with the wheel running is like shifting your car into
reverse while running forward down the road.

Reversing these permanent magnet DC motors is really easy. all you
have to do is reverse the wires in the circuit to the motor.

My Jepson wheel did not come with a reversing switch. Instead they
put a plug and socket in the middle of the cord from the controller to
the motor. To reverse it you have to separate the plug from the socket
which naturally stops the motor and turn it 180 degrees and plug it
back in.

The Jepson has a far better controller than the Brent. I got tired of
having to go under the wheel to reverse it so I installed a reversing
switch. The first time I threw it with the wheel running I blew a small
fuse that the better controller maker had thoughtfully provided and
had to take apart the controller housing to get to the fuse.

So I replaced the DPDT reversing switch with a double pole switch
with a center "off "position. To reverse I move the toggle from the first
position to the center off position and pause then throw it to the third
position. 7 years that way now and no problem.

If you don't like all this then buy a bigger switch that can take a big
current surge.

Susan,
DPDT stands for double pole double throw.
The wires through the switch run like this:
red wire______...._____ + DC Voltage
motor \ /
black wire_____ / \______-DC Voltage

to reverse, the switch runs them like this:
red wire___________ + DC Voltage
motor
black wire___________-DC Voltage
If the one set of contacts is bad, the motor will
not run in the reverse direction.
All Fred meant was the motor must be at
full stop before you reverse the switch.
Reversing under power is not recommended.
