Here is another thing most folks back home are not aware of: Shino
mogusa clay is porous,not vitrified, even above cone 11. The feel of
the feet of shino tea bowls feel more like bisque than glaze fire
temps. When using traditional shino mogusa clay, I have often had
to fire twice, once with a high alumina shino to get a nice surface
and then again, to made a sealed surface over the porous clay.

Just remember, raku is a lot like low fired earthenware. If
you don't torture the ware, it has a much better chance of being water
tight, if you have a good glaze on it. Remember, in Japan, raku is
ONLY functional ware.
