pregnancy and clay, my $.02

As long as she uses common sense and works safely she should be fine. My =
beautiful son just turned 1, and I made pots the whole time I was =
pregnant. I just used my respirator and gloves, and my kiln's in the =
garage. In fact, I found out early on in my pregnancy that through some =
fairly rare genetic "hiccup" he is missing his middle fingers and toes.
I met with genetic counselors and listed everything I ever used in =
ceramics, because I would have been crushed to find out that I had =
somehow "caused" his limb anomalies. They assured me that this is not =
the case.=20

I learned that, while it is very wise to proceed with caution and common =
sense, you cannot live in fear of what might harm you. Driving her car =
probably puts her child more at risk than throwing and glazing a pot. =
Continuing to make pots through my pregnancy helped to keep my head on =
straight through a crazy time, and now, I've got a lot less time for =
clay because I'm chasing around my toddler! (not a complaint.) Tell =
her to enjoy her captive little audience and make pots now, while she's =
got the chance.
