And! Don't miss my piece, purchased by the Everson Museum for their
permanent collection in 1954, while I was going to graduate school at
Syracuse U.

Next weekend I will be taking my daughter to Syracuse University for an
audition. (Oh! - My little girl is going off to college!) I will be stuck
there with lots of time on my hands. If weather permits, I would like to
see
some pottery in the area. Any suggestions for me?

You could visit the Everson Museum, which is located in Syracuse:
http://www.everson.org/exhibits/permanent.htm

It claims to have currently one of the largest holdings of American ceramics
in the USA.

Here's a short quotation: "The ceramics collection of the Everson is
widely recognized for its magnitude and magnificence."

Well, for a start, the University has a great collection
in their ceramics museum. Don't miss it.

The Everson Museum is very close to the
Syracuse campus. Some of Arnold Zimmerman's
immense pots are out front, and there's more
good stuff inside. You can definitely spend
an audition's-worth of time there!

Carole -
You are in for a treat. I am sure that there are some potters, but one of
the best ways you could use up at least a half day is at the Everson Museum
in Syracuse - they have the best collection of American ceramics in the
world, covering all periods, and they have been building their collection of
international ceramics as well. You'll get to see Adelaide Alsop Robineau's
extraordinary "Scarab Vase," probably the best known piece of American Art
Nouveau pottery.
Have fun -

Carole,

Call Clayscapes Pottery and speak with Don...he is in Syracuse and is a
great supplier. He can help you.

Also the Syracuse Ceramic Guild http://ceramicguild.com/ may help you
with info.

I'm not that close to Syracuse - about 90 minutes or so but maybe those
two will help you out.

Hi Carole,
Snail is so right! In fact, you could spend more than a day in
there. It is a ceramic's museum, and their collection is immense,
from everywhere, including current studio pottery. I always try and
stop by there if I am travelling through the area.
