soda ash and bone ash: pedantic year of learning

I already am having a good time! Thank you. Besides the list of things we
want to learn!!!!! some one hoped others would not be Pedantic this year.
But being pedantic is such extreme fun, it is a pity to be called on the
carpet for it. (Kelly: send the kid to Belgium! The best french-fries in
the universe!)

So an OT pedantic question: "faux" was appropriated (is that "learned
borrowing?") to mean fake or imitation. It started as "faux marble", which
sounds ok as the French for marble is masculine. But "faux fur" grates on
my ear. Fur/fourrure being a feminine. I think it should be "fausse".
Wot think you?
Barb: Why throw out a golden opportunity? Bone Ash is calcium phosphate,
and Soda Ash is sodium carbonate. Bone ash can create opalescence, and it
can modify a plain calcium glaze by breaking up the surface in a very nice
way (the phosphorus escaping in the firing.) Soda ash is water
soluble....So, as someone said, it if nice for painting on surfaces. As was
suggested mix the whole mess well, set aside.Look over your glaze recipes
and find a couple which have both soda and calcium, and make up tests
replacing some flux (whiting, wollastonite, spar, nephsy) with a bit of
Barb's Secret Blend. I would do it in blends. Then when you hit the
jackpot, make up a big batch and keep it as your secret glaze! Make a huge
production of it! Clutch the recipe to your bosom! Refuse to share it!
You have NO idea how envious you can make others....Grand opportunity. Go
for it!
And to make May feel better, I sign
