Hello Clayarters!

As some of you know, I have only been doing pottery for 3 months now. I did
hand-building on and off for years, more off, but in the last 3 months I
took two courses, bought my own wheel, kiln and started making my own
glazes. This discussion forum has been a god sent and I wouldn't be at the
stage I am at now without it and all of you!

Here is a link to my blog: www.LisaElbertsen.com

I would be *honoured* if any Clayarters would sign my guestbook:

I have posted my Mastering Cone 6 Glazes tests:

Cheers and thank you all again for all of your help, feedback and advice!

These look really good! How did you get your varigated slate blue from =
the
first dark glossy look to the lighter matte look? THanks! Sue

Hi Sue;

Thank you for your feedback. I am not sure I understand your question but I
will try to answer it. I dipped half the bowl in VSB first, then my second
dip was a glossy blue which I just overlapped in the middle. The glossy
blue is from the MC6G book page 96 - Glossy Base Glaze 2 with 1% cobalt
carbinate and 0.5% red iron oxide.

The glossy blue has some black flecks which is really nice. It HAS to be
fired at cone 6 as I did a firing that went to cone 7 and the glossy blue
crazed.

When I dip the entire piece in VSB, then do a second dip in my glossy blue I
get what I call Midnight Sky glaze. Both dips have to be fast as I did one
a lot thicker and it ran. Thank god for kiln wash!

I hope that answered your question.

Lisa
