I have been privileged to have a sneak peak at the book and " WOW" is
all I can say . ... ........ I lied! Im gonna say more. :O)
As one of those china painters , we tend to live in our own
little private overglaze world .It IS strange that chinapainters and
potters should be such close kin and yet not be totally aware of each
other ( on both sides of the fence) . Paul's presence on our PPIO listserv
has opened a lot of eyes there ... and has ( God help me ) sent me on a
quest to learn to make my own forms....and sent me to you all . Thank you
to you all who have helped me immensely in that quest .
This book treats potters and china painters with equal respect and I
believe it will be a bridge across the gap for all of us .He lays out
the really technical stuff while still making the book extremely
accessible to the chemically challenged ... and its a good read .
Paul did a helluva job on this puppy .It's fitting that it should
be unleashed in time for NCECA... I am thrilled that there will soon be
something on the market that is not only crammed with information but
is classy and looks great to boot.
Can't wait for the official unveiling, Paul.... While Im at it,
thanks for all you contribute to both Clayart and PPIO.

painting is awe inspiring.

It is, and one of the first things you learn about Marci is that if
you're going to diss her, you're REALLY better off keeping your mouth
shut. She's the equivalent of the Mayor on the PPIO list.

LOL !!! Its OK , Joan . I can take it ! :o) .... And if its any
consolation, we tend to think that all potters make brown glazed coffee
mugs :O) .........I was really excited about Paul Lewing's book because
it will show chinapainters that there is more out there than brown glazes
and it will show potters that there is more to china painting
than forget-me-nots and badly painted roses.
Thanks for the nice words about my work ( although some of you macho
fire-eating types will probably find it pretty "girly girl ") .
Snail did have an accurate observation about trying to find
information when he tried to teach himself . Because of the nature of the
current audience , china painting teachers tend to teach subject specific
classes ( usually florals ) but believe me, there are several of us would
be thrilled to just show you all the technical side and the tricks and
then stand back :O) . You dont have to paint florals....As Paul Lewing is
fond of saying:" Its just paint. It doesnt get to decide ."
If any one needs information about any overglaze techniques
( chinapaint, lusters, gold, glass to porcelain fusion etc ) , feel free
to email me . Also feel free to check out our PPIO website ( and just
ignore the lesson on forget me nots :O) )
Now if I can only get my danged pots to stop bloating...........
