nceca newbie questions

I have some questions about NCECA. The only time I've attended was for a day &
overnight in Indy a couple of years ago.

My husband & I will be attending the Louisville conference. We have our
reservations at Galt House. We will be driving down on Tuesday. I looked at
the NCECA site trying to determine cost of the conference & what kinds of
lectures are planned. We are wondering if we really want to spend $200+ each
for the full deal or if buying a couple of day passes might not be a better
choice.

Can we go on the bus tours on days when we don't have a day pass?

I know that there are things being planned by ClayArt for the Galt House &
ClayArt room. Will there be a schedule posted on the list?

Would like to hear from some of you who have more NCECA experience to help us
decide how to get the most from the experience while being somewhat frugal, too.

Thanks.

Dear Sue,
I have been going to NCECAs for 36 years and was even on the Board of
Directors in the 90's, but I can't answer your question about the
bus tickets. Also
sometimes the buses are great..sometimes they leave you stranded.
Can't ever be sure.
I know there will be several good presentations. There are
interesting special interest groups/topical discussions where anyone
can contribute to the topic/discussions. These can be very
informative. Maybe your husband doesn't need to attend all the
things, but whoever in your family is a clay person should look
carefully at the schedule of events and decide what is relavent and
register accordingly.
The Clayart room is always interesting with good conversations and
sometimes actual presentations.
I don't think there is a schedule yet for the Clayart room. See you
there.

Sue, once they post the content of the conference, you can decide if
you're interested in any/all/most of it. I say if you are interested in
less than half of it, go for the day pass of the day you're most
interested in, and then you can get into the vendor show too. Bus
passes are great too, but since you'll have a car, you might rather
drive yourself.

I hope that whomever is in charge of the Order of Affairs in the clayart
room will post same fairly soon so that we can make plans accordingly.
The "thing" exchange is usually Friday night I think....and the Fouts
Photography Extravaganza has been on Thursday nights previously..... and
that's all's I know.

Sue:
I could be wrong (and I'm sure someone will tell me ), but the last time
I checked you cannot buy bus passes without a full registration. IOW, I
believe they are not available separately.
I will e-mail Dawn in the NCECA office today and get a clarification. I'll
post it here when I get a response. If you and hubby are not both into pots
(that is, if you'll be at NCECA while he bums around Louisville) you might
only consider one full registration. I don't think registration is required
for attendance in the Clayart room. Mel, can you answer that?

There are a few things done in the Clayart room every NCECA, like Russel's
photography presentation, and the Mug exchange. You'll be aware of when
those are by paying attention to the "board" on the wall in the Clayart
room. Once you check in to your room, come down and have a look. Mug
exchange is usually Friday, and Russel's presentation is usually Thursday
night. The Potters Council general meeting is always Friday morning...EARLY,
but that's in a different location.

I have just e-mailed the Galt to find out the status of their internet
service. It's not listed on their website.
Best,

Hi Sue,

We went to NCECA last year and bought day passes for 2
days. We spent a great deal of that time in the
vendors hall and learned a lot. We also went to some
of the presentations, choosing the days according to
what we wanted to attend. We went on one bus tour. I
believe you have to have a pass for the day of the
tour you choose. The rest of the time we spent hanging
around the clayart room and taking public
transportation to many of the galleries on the other
tours. It was a great experience and we saw a
tremendous amount of pottery! We were able to do this
easily. 2 days at the conference worked out perfectly
for us.

Janet, on Vancouver Island, where I will remain for NCECA
