Hi:  I am trying to get " empty bowl" started here in Saskatoon with our local area potters guild.  I am wondering if there are any clayart people who have taken part in this type of fundraiser in their area willing to send me advice.

My local potters group has some concerns about doing this with our guild.  Concerns such as insurance, liability, a non-profit giving money to another charity etc.

If there is someone out there well schooled in this type of fundraiser who would not mind some emails from me or even a few phone calls - please  let me know.  I am hoping to have a meeting this coming weekend with some members of our guild that have shown interest in wanting to help with this worthy venture.

Best, Cathy Mumford

Cathy -=20

We have our Arrowsmith Potters Guild here in Parksville, B.C. ( =
Vancouver Island). We have been running an Empty Bowl program for the =
past two years without any problems. =20

Our first year we had 60 people show up for a bowl of soup and the next =
year it was 160 people.

We serve a selection of soups made be our local restaurants accompanied =
by bread, buns, tea, coffee and juices.

We also have a "Silent Auction" of donated pottery which works very well =
and adds to the total of the dollars we take in.

The proceeds are given to the local Salvation Army Food Bank in =
Parksville. We do not give them cash. We puchase food items from one of =
local supermarkets and they give us a very good discount which maximixes =
the product we are able to supply. Before we do our buing we check with =
the Food Bank to see which products thet are most in need of for their =
clientele.

We have never had any problems with concern to insurance or liability. =
I am sure you will not run in to any problems. Good Luck!!!

Hi Catherine, We just had our 7th Empty Bowls in San Antonio,
Texas. I have run the kitchen for the last 3 years. Our event was very
successful and we raised over $20,000 for the SAMMinistries here. SAMM runs
an extended living shelter that houses and rehabilitates families. If you
would like to email me directly: taaffecaton@hotmail.com. I hope to hear
from you soon. Taaffe
