crusty saggar pots

Hi All.
I just did my fourth saggar firing and for the first time, some of my pots
emerged with crusty spots on them. I am guessing it is because the firing
was too hot. Is there a way to remove the "shmutz" without damaging the
terra sigilatta? Otherwise- some nice pots with pretty colors.
