One additional suggestion I want to add to
the cracking discussion is:
When you are experiencing drying cracks,
try several different drying schedules at
the same time on similar pieces to find
what works.
My clay body is the Alfred porcelain
recipe:
50 Helmer Kaolin
25 fluxes (we use Custer and Neph Sye)
25 200 mesh silica
It likes to be dried very fast in the room
and has a much higher loss rate to
cracking if it is dried slower.
Trying different schedules and methods
will help you zero in on what works in
your studio environment with your clay
and forming methods,
