hey all,

I just bought some highway's P10 porcelain clay and I have some questions.
I normally throw with a white stoneware, this there any major things I
need to be aware of when throwing with porcelain that is different than
when using a stoneware clay? Any good tips on throwing or trimming
porcelain for a porcelain newbie?

thanks,

Hi Scott,

The porcelains I'm used to are about 50% non plastic material - stoneware
clays are more like 70 to 80% plastic material (clay) - so porcelain wets
quicker - if it's a non ball clay porcelain it will be a lot more difficult
to throw - so throw fast and use as little water as possible - better to
use slip instead of water - maybe put some vinegar in what ever you use to
lubricate.

The cone 6 porcelainious stonewares often have some Neph sy in them - if
there is nothing to counter the defloccing it can be very difficult to
throw larger.

Ask your clay supplier about what they add to counter any defloculation.

Traditional porcelain is trimmed a lot if you want translucency.
