using newspaper for drying

Here's a nice variation on this theme. I use snap-lid clear plastic boxes
as damp boxes for my slab-built work, and when I am ready to dry the pieces,
I just tape a piece of newspaper over the top in place of the lid. I never
have problems with cracking, and as in Snail's experience, it eliminates the
hassle of covering and uncovering with plastic, and also eliminates the
condensation problem with plastic.
