Your all caps friendly makes me think you've encountered some =20
not-so-friendly ones. Tom Coleman resides in Las Vegas. Not sure how =20
friendly, but a hell of a good potter.

Hi Linda,

If it was up to me, aside from that I love and
work with the various inner-city Birds here, and I
like the little happy Crickets, and the elegant
Cellar Spiders, and the other shy fauna as may be
of
the ingenuous kind(s)...and my one or two
friends...

It would be just fine with me if somebody let go
an
Anawetok class whammy here and scrubbed it all out
into one ( '1' ) big-assed cloud of s-l-o-w-l-y
settleing dust.

Make for some really gorgeous Sunsets you know...

Or, better yet, just abandonded it all to the
Desert...so it can slowly decay, and Tumble-Weeds
can nestle and soft lungeing cuddle in the breezes
against doorways and in parking
lots...the Birds can make Nests in crags of Casino
facades and Shopping Malls for their peeping Babys
to blink out of and fledge from,
the Crickets can sing their Earth-and-Sky things
and dreamily wafting their sensitive antennae
without anyone stepping on them, the Sidewinders
and other Rattle Snakes could bask and day-dream
with impunity on the weed tufted blacktop...and
the Skys and Clouds can
stream slow by in the sweet humm of the
Sunshine...or to the purr of the night Stars'
teems...or the blue Light of the Moon...

...sigh...

So, I dunno, maybe I am not the right boy or girl
to talk with...

Though I am 'friendly'...

But as to some of your question -

The 'art scene' totally sucks...

The 'art' OF the art scene totally sucks...

The 'downtown-arts-district' is a totally sucky
sham of a ridiculous scam of a hyped up phoney
moneygod whoreing nothing...

The ethos of all of it totally sucks...

The university totally sucks...

The 'coffee shops' all totally suck...

Almost all the restaurants totally suck...

The smog, traffic and general demeaner and
degeneracy and terminal interior deadness and wan
cannibalism of the populous totally sucks...

Almost everyone ( not me) has chronic lung and
bronchial and breathing
problems/infections/conditions/discomfitures...

Huge suicide rate ( not enough by a long shot of
course, but 'huge'...)

The politicians all totally suck...

The state, county, city governments all totally
suck...and are merely low grade criminals...

Housing is ridiculously expensive...and overall
ugly...and shoddy and 'cheap' in every way...(but
the older homes are well built...such of them that
remain...)

It is almost impossible to find anyone who will do
anything well, and or not rip you off...

The doctors and hospitals are among the worst
imaginable...

Climate is nice...if you like 'heat' ( I do, or
did...) and overall gentle Winters ( sometimes the
Water in my Kitchen Sink freezes, but it is
seldom...so high 20s is about it for 'cold'...)

Lotsa crime, 'gangs', gangs, crime and so on...in
government and in the populous...

Lotsa drug-sex-alcohol addictions and dramas and
people-problems...

Lotsa
childabuse,spousalabuse,selfabuse,policeabuse,abus
e...

schools and school system totally sucks in every
way and then some...

There are Crickets...which is nice...( or did I
already say that?)

...it is a psychic 'vortex', kinda like Sedona,
only ''here'', instead of experienceing themselves
as re-incarnated pre-Columbian Amarind 'shamans'
or 'shamanesses', and 'cosmic-dolphin-warriers'
and so on, we find endless (presumeably)
re-incarnated schumcks
schiesters and ne'r-do-wells, experienceing
nothing past a lizard brain's on-off binaries for
the crudest proprioceptive urges short sighted
mandates, or experienceing themselves and others
as
schmucks and schiesters ne'r-do-wells ( which is
at least accurate) or, as
prey or bait...with all the various permutations
and disguises of course...to which such society
accustoms itself.

I always liked Downtown though.

It was a haven for
a long time...it was the last of what had been
here 'before'...

...it had just-enough counter-vortex in the 'eye'
OF the vortex, for
it to get bye...it was quiet, overlooked, sleepy,
unselfconscious, unharried, neglected, somewhat
seedy...like
me I s'pose...

Downtown now is booming, getting gobbled up with
hi-rise and other bigdollar developements...all
the old houses getting razed...property values
tripleing in the last year, quadrupleing
really...and my call to exit stage
right, or left, or whicheveritis, has long since
sounded...or was a steady background tone for more
than a decade ( you know like 'Stall Indicator'
buzzers are on some Aeroplanes, ) but I just been
slow
to get on to moveing...and too, fate saw fit to
patronize my procrastinations with some leeway and
kisses on the forehead...so...

Really ( aside from me I mean ) if someone 'seems'
friendly here, you best run, and fast, too...or
else see for sure if they will let you 'put your
hand in their side', just to make sure...

...why not move to ohhhhh, 'Big Tuna, Texas'?

Or uhhhhhhh...Haiti or Chechnia or someplace more
cheerful?

Lol...

I think that I mislead you folks by using all caps on that word. I'm just looking to find someone that would be willing to talk to me about life in Vegas as a potter, galleries, and what is happening out there.
I of course have heard of Tom Coleman but i don't know how friendly he is either.I'm trying to avoid bothering people that don't want to be bothered. He, I'm sure is a very busy man. I've seen his picture in Ceramics Monthly. Linda

Phil,
I simply love your tourist info fact sheet. Perhaps you might come to
south Florida and write for us. Carl Hiaasen is already doing it, but we can
always use more good help.
Regards,
Jim

Thank you L.P. No I wrote that incorrectly and everyone thinks I met some pissy people. I was just trying to avoid meeting them. But I've gotten some good advice that I'll be taking. Thank you for writing. Linda
