older step-vans for work and play...

Hi all,

I am always advocating that Potters seek out older
interesting Vans and recently I got this one -

http://public.fotki.com/PhilBphil/1960-chevrolet-thri/

It is a joy to drive, can do a"U-Turn" in any
decent sized street, and has a wonderful view.

Steers very easily at a stand-still too...Steering
Box looks like the usual for a ton-and-a-half or
so, so very easy Steering all around.

Three-Quarter-Ton, GVW stated as 7,000 Gross

Chevrolet through and through,
Three-on-the-Tree...factory 235 six...

Has a little over 100,000 original miles on it and
runs good.

Got it a week ago, been tinkering on it doing
various remedial fix-'em-ups and sundry
attentions, and went and got it inspected and so
on and got my
License Plates on it so now am Street-Legal
and in daily use.

I did have a somewhat larger early '70s Bread
Truck which felt like I was sitting in someone's
livingroom driving their House down the
street...while this one is entirely intimate,
intuitive and comfortable to drive, in every way.

Tomorrow I will pull the Carb and go through it,
and after that, do points plugs and timeing and
then adjust the tappets...and on from there with
many other little things to adjust or fix or
clean and so on....

Anyway, just wanted to show it off a little, and
to encourage you-all also to see what nice older
Vehicles you might find to suit your needs,
especially when they make driving fun.

It is also easy to spot where I had parked, when I
am coming out of the Grocery Store.

Best wishes,

Phil

Hope you're going to keep the original paint--I like the look of it.
Especially the Institutional Green.

I wish I could get my hands on one of these...*The S Cargo by Nissan*....but
even if I could, I don't think they're street legal in the US. You Canadian
folks could drive them though I think. From what I understand they're based
on the mid-80's Nissan Sentra platform.

Magnificent job, Carl! Fast work, too. ;-) Thanks for the preview.
Now we'll know what to look for in the parking lots when Phil
shows up for NCECA.

Cheers,
