I just spoke with Randall Schmidt who is one of the featured artist at the
clay expressions conference coming up on Sept 14,15 &16 here at Amaco-
American Art Clay Company and he is really excited about the upcoming
event. He wanted me to pass on some info about what he will be
demonstrating for everyone.
"My workshop is stated as modeling and decorating demonstrations. One of
the things I have learned from my 38 year career as a College Ceramics
Professor at Arizona State University is that people don't think you are a
real artist unless you can make something look like something," modeling"'
and you need to know how to use a potters wheel if your in Ceramics. In
my demos I will show easy ways to model, making something look realistic
and how to make objects of some merit on the wheel even if you possess
limited throwing skills. We will talk about techniques, materials, fads
and trends in Ceramics and where we each fit in. Having known most of the
contemporary leading Ceramic artists and having worked with hundreds of
very bright creative Graduate students over the years so I have seen just
about all ways of working and trends. We will talk about what is
important in your field and career. As we work I'll try to answer
anything about Clay, Grad School, and in general anything about your
pursuit of Ceramics. I look forward to working with you and feel
participants of any level are appropriate. Sincerely,, Professor Randy
