wheels outdoors -- what about slab rollers? and electric kilns?

I have been reading with interest the discussion about potters' wheels
outdoors. Right now, all I have is a deck for a studio at home. I'm a
handbuilder and am considering buying a slab roller. Is it OK to keep it
outdoors and cover it with a tarp when not in use? Would one model be a
better choice in this setting than another? I live in NC where it is hot
in summer, can be cold in winter, and is generally humid.

I also live in NC and I wouldn't keep a slab roller outdoors. Too many =
metal parts to rust in the hummididity for one thing.....then the boards =
would warp, and it'd be a mess. They cost too much to be treated that =
way. Remember, slab rollers are not used wet like a wheel is, and =
they're built up off the ground for more than one reason too, IMO. :)

As for an electric kiln outdoors, I subbed for the art teacher at a =
private school in GSO, and he had their kiln outdoors under a tin pole =
shed. It was not 100% rainproof, but it worked for them. I would =
personally want MY kiln to have more cover than that one did tho, =
especially if it's a computerized one.
