Just a belated note of thanks to all the Clayarters who generously sent
me their suggestions on ways to get rid of the hotspot in my raku kiln.
FYI, I tried ALL your suggestions! The method that seemed to work best
for my type of kiln (converted electric kiln, round, appx. 9" radius,
21" deep) is to position two small rectangles of firebrick (that were
about half as high as my posts) at a 90-degree angle to split the flame.
Oh, and to fire slower. The back of my kiln is still hotter than the
front but I think I can live with it.=20
