Pinhole Photography Workshop, Aug. 21, 23, 24 & 26, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Pinhole cameras are often as much sculpture as the images they make are
photographs. Part of the attraction of the medium is that no one really
needs to buy anything: all that's needed can be easily scavenged from
household trash. See examples of cameras made from chili peppers and
automobiles! Create cameras, make images and mat them for display. Fee:
$205; pre-registration required. 253.460.4306. Tacoma Community College
Main Campus, Building 5, 6501 S. 19th St., Tacoma.

Exquisite Embellished Pouches, Aug. 22, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Aug. 23-24, 9
a.m.-12 p.m. & 1-4 p.m.

Use beads, buttons, embroidery, crochet and other techniques to create
an embellished pouch. Focus on color and design, and get inspiration
from small bags, pouches and purses of other cultures. Bring your own
materials; includes trip to Seattle-area specialty shops. Fee: $285;
pre-registration required. 253.460.4306. Tacoma Community College Main
Campus, Building 5, 6501 S. 19th St., Tacoma.

Basketry Techniques and Tricks, Aug. 25-27, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. & 1-4 p.m.

Work with wire, thread, twigs, found objects and natural hog gut
(sausage casing). Experiment with embedding found objects within layers
of casing, and make a mold for constructing a lace-like, coiled basket.
Stitch over vine rattan using basic netting (needle lace) stitches and
hog gut as thread. Fee: $300; pre-registration required. 253.460.4306.
Tacoma Community College Main Campus, Building 5, 6501 S. 19th St., Tacoma.

parameters to address in designing pieces. Includes slide presentation
of the instructor's work over the last 30 years, demonstration of
trimming and post-wheel alterations, and some hands-on class time. Fee:
