workshops in the upstate ny area

I have been searching for workshops in the upstate NY area and can't seem to find any. I used to take pottery classes just to see others pot as I feel you can learn so much from watching others (the good and the bad) but most studios ask me why I am taking beginner/intermediate classes.

I don't have the funds to spend a thousand bucks or more to go to a western/southern conference even though I wish I could.

Does anyone know of or know where I find listings for workshops in upstate NY?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Nancy, you might talk to Barbara at River St
Pottery Studio in Troy or call Northeast Ceramic
Supply (in the same building). I attended a
workshop with Gay Smith there, learned alot.

Hi Nancy,

I contacted Barbara also and hope to hear whether they offer something.
In the mean tim: closer to home for you (morning drive) is Peters Valley, which has outstanding workshops. They also have anagama, salt, soda, gas, nurigama (probably wrong word,) raku, pit fire, wood firing kilns etc etc.
The classes are at all levels and given by great people. They usually cost $250-ish to $480-ish, incl. basic beginning clay (or bring your own) and run from a weekend, 3-day, 5 day. Some are longer.
I know I sound like an advertising company, but I have learned so much there. And the variety is great both of potters/styles and people.

This place is a lovely drive of about 45 min. from my house in Honesdale, Notherern Poconos, and you're welcome to stay here. Must like friendly, playful dogs.

Look up Petersvally....org? com??

Good luck. Closer than the south-west by a long shot.
