Here is some follow up information regarding the Clay Expressions
Conference that will be held at AMACO on September 14-16.

Each participant will have the chance to tour the plant and see how
glazes, clay, kilns and wheels are designed and engineered. They will
also be given the opportunity for hands-on experimentation with any of the
Amaco/Brent wheels and clay bodies that they choose. It will be an
informal format which allows participants to go from Studio to Studio to
get a taste of each artists ideas. Hurry and sign up for your chance to
join in the fun!

Becasue of the extraordinary response we have received to the Clay
Expressions Conference and the questions some participants have asked I
would like to clarify a couple of points.
1 - All participants are asked to send one or two pieces of their work
for the Clay Expressions Show which will run from September 18th to
October 27th. Pieces should be received by September 1st to give us time
to set up the show. A 20% commission will be charged by the gallery on the
sold pieces. Pieces that are not sold during the exhibit will be returned
to the owner at AMACO's expense.
2 - In consideration of all what will be going on during the conference,
complimentary lunch will be provided on the premises on both days.
3 - Don't forget these will be hands on participation. Have some ideas
ready to try.
4 - A great group of eight artists will be ready to teach everything
they know. Sign up now. Go to www.potterscouncil.org and click on Clay
Expressions.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact George Debikey at
800-925-5195 ext 328 or email at gdebikey@amaco.com or contact Danielle
McIntosh at dmcintosh@ceramics.org.

I have developed a method of making molds from stryofoam which was
written up in the July, 2003, issue of Pottery Making Illustrated. I will
be bringing a number of pieces to paint on using underglazes utilizing
brushes, hair coloring applicators and thin underglaze applicators.

I have been primarily using Amaco underglazes as well as majolica and
velvets covering them with a clear glaze and firing to cone 05. I bisque
to cone 03 and paint on the clay allowing the underglazes to dry. I then
apply a clear glaze and fire a second time.

Hope to see you at the Conference.
