Hi, Clayarters,

It's been a few years away from clay for me but I am back and ready to continue my mud endeavours. Incredible inspiration and encouragement came recently from a weeklong workshop given by Master Potter Seth Cardew at his pottery in Castellon, Spain. He and his wife, Roberta, moved to Spain two years ago ( having sold Wenford Bridge Pottery in Cornwall, England) and now live among groves of olive, almond and fig trees in a lovely stone house. A well-equipped student cottage is just steps away from the pottery and a recently built wood-fired kiln. The weeklong workshop was extremely informative, fun and very spiritual for me. I have been to many workshops and seminars, but I can honestly say that nothing compared to working with Seth. His philosophy about pottery, his techniques, and practical approach to making pottery was refreshing and invigorating. Trimming pots on a wheel that his father Michael Cardew had made was quite thrilling as well. Recollections of his father, Bernard
Leach and Hamada were shared by Seth throughout the course as well. The cost of the workshop includes accomodations and two meals a day with the mid-day meal prepared by Roberta, a gourmet chef and f
abric artist. I hope some of you will find your way to Cardew-Spain for the week-long workshop coming up on Sept. 10 or a future one. It is definitely worth the trip. To have made four teapots that actually look like teapots and bowls and plates and mugs in a week's time and really feel a sense of accomplishment - was wonderful. More information is available at the Cardew-Spain website. And no, this is not an advertisement for the workshop, but rather a recommendation for those ( like me) who need a "jumpstart" to get the clay beneath their fingernails again. Pls email if I can answer any questions and boy do I have photos!! LOL LOL
All the best,
Beth
