For today's potters, shooting high quality images of your work can be
a survival skill. Whether you are applying for a grant, a crafts
fair, or an exhibition your photography can make or break you.

John Glick was the 2005 juror for the Strictly Functional National
exhibition. He came away from the experience disappointed in the
majority of the photography he say. Being a man of action with a
philanthropic bent, John decided create a photography resource for
us. His photography blog can be seen at
http://web.mac.com/johnglick/iWeb/Site/Blog/Blog.html.

His site has more information than you would want to try to absorb in
one sitting. These include choosing a camera, lighting, backgrounds,
photography tips, and using your images as effective tools.

Many thanks to John for this wonderful labor of love.

I absolutely agree that John Glick's blog is an excellent photography
resource for clay artists! Also, FYI, John is now offering photography
workshops for potters at his studio (www.PlumTreePottery.com) in Farmington
Hills, Michigan, at a very reasonable price. Workshops are only $50 per
person (seminar is two and a half hours, plus a free studio tour is thrown
in, and he has a pretty awesome studio). If interested, you just need to
round up ten to twelve other interested people, find a date that works for
everyone, and basically coordinate the logistics before you contact John (he
likes to have one primary contact for each group rather than having a bunch
of individuals contacting him separately since he is a busily working studio
potter!). I've organized a group to attend one of John's photography
seminars this September so would be happy to provide additional info about
his seminars as well as about coordinating them if anyone is interested
(offline or on Clayart depending on interests).

Best,
