They did something like this on the show Myth Busters but it was distilled
water and they brought it to the boiling point, I think it was on the
stove. The distilled water didn't boil until they put something in the
water... don't remember if it was soup mix, salt or what it was but it
turns out that distilled water doesn't boil by itself, only when it has
something in it to help it boil. Guess there are a few people who don't
know the water is that hot until they put something in it and end up
getting burned when it boils over. Ouch!

Pinky... fireworks filled skys in the lake country of MN. The garden is
producing and life is good.

It also depends on the shape of the vessel in which you are boiling
your water: if it is tapered at the top, so that it encloses the water
and air to a greater degree, it is more likely to explode. (Saw it on
"Good Eats." Kaboom !)

HEY!

Any lab rat worth her salt will tell you that delayed boiling can
happen. It sucks to be doing a digestion and bumb, bumb, half your
sample is sucked into the fume manifold because you forgot to add the
three boiling beads. Hope there's more sample.

Nothing to get steamed about, folks. Make some mugs.
