Copper carbaonte (0.5 g) is a colorant and is below the line.

Hi, Daniel,

There are (at least) two photos in John's excellent Complete Guide to
High Fire Glazes of pots using Chung's Satin Mint glaze. both on a
Grolleg porcelain, fired to cone 10. They both look richly matte.

The first (p.119) is said to have been fired in reduction and is a
toasty caramel. seeming to break white where thin.

The second (p.123) is said to have been fired in a neutral
atmosphere; it is a light, minty green, also seeming to be white on
edges, and might even show an orangey streak in a crease. Sam's a
clever fellow, though, and the streak might be something else
altogether.

You know how pictures can be deceiving, but they both make it look
like a very nice-looking glaze. I'm pretty sure I saw some of his
pots using it at NCECA one or two years ago when he was one of the
demonstrators.

Regards,
Maurice

ps Did I tell you I was colorblind? John may want to offer his interpretation.

Hi Boris,

Its common (though not universal) to list the base glaze as summing to 100,
and the additives such as colourants, suspenders (bentonite, macaloid
etc), and
opacifiers as additions to it.

Hi John,

Do you know if this is normally fired in oxidation ?

thanx

Hi Maurice,

Of course, who'd have thought to look in the book ! Just had a look. Thx.

Both examples are soda fired, so I'm not sure of the impact of that, but its
the neutral one that's green or greenish, which is what I was expecting.

The caramel is interesting.

Thanx
D

John, why sum is not 100 but 100.50?
Thank you in advance for your respond.

What I have been told here at Alfred is that it is
probably oxidation.
