cold cure for dunting

Gang: I don't know why this remedy works but here is what Ryogi Matsumyia of
Japan did with his pots to prevent dunting. Bizen clay, high iron fired hot
to cone 15+, up and down like a toilet seat at a mixed party to Cone 15 up
to their waists in coals , coals burned down, up again, down again. As soon
as the pots were unloaded from the kin they were dunked in a cold bath of
cold water and the water was left to sit in the vessels while they
completely cooled. Maybe the weenies of Clayart know why this helps. I do it
with my pots fired in the hot throat zone of our wood kiln. Our clay has 4%
red iron in it, so I guess that is a high iron body. I don't know why it
works but it does.
Best,
