Tom,
I got your mug in a clayart mug exchange years ago. I met you in the
flesh last year. Your
endorsement of the merger is good.
I guess I support it. Both are very reputable companies.
And it was nice to meet you in Portland.

i think from my personal standpoint, this
is a wonderful merger, of two fine companies
with superb integrity.

this will be a good thing for clay people.
and, it should not hurt existing clay companies.

my association with howard over the years
has been one of my blessings...and the last
three years working with joe koons and the
people at laguna, and seeing that operation
from the inside has been a double blessing.

i will always buy my supplies and clay from
continental clay. they are `my` supplier.
nothing changes.

but, we will see some great things happening
in the next few years with this merger.

I just received a call from Howard that a joint announcement was made by
Laguna and Axners. As a partner in Axners, I, of course, knew for several
months what was happening; I attended the Portland NCECA this year to meet
the representatives from Laguna and was wonderfully impressed with those I
meet from Laguna. When Howard and I first talked merger, my first choice
before he contacted anyone was Laguna; it's a great fit. I will no longer be
an investor or partner so I am free to express my real opinion - right?

Howard Axner is the most wonderful, competent, ethical person you could
meet. One of my first suggestions was that Howard somehow stay active and
this has been worked out. I could not express my admiration for Howard over
the 10+ years we've been partners. I have a wonderful professional and
investment career extending over 72 years and a pottery career, if it can be
called that for 30+ years. By most standards, I have been very successful
and during my lifetime, I have had many partners in various business
endeavors. I have never had a partner or investor that I have more respected
than Howard. I remember a meeting we had last week and something came up
that required a contractual decision and I said Howard, why should I second
guess you now after all of these years, I have always been comfortable with
your decision and I know for certain you will do the right thing.

I'm not GAY and I mean no offence to those that are BUT I LOVE HOWARD.
Howard Axner is a prince and Laguna is damn lucky to have him. And we at
Axner's are damn lucky to have Laguna.

I will close by saying that Laguna has a high standard to live up to -
HOWARD AXNER. Rest assured for any of you that are customers that Howard
will cease to work for Laguna if he detects anything smacking of
exploitation. For my part, I consider myself so fortunate to have aligned
myself with Howard some years ago.

The last time we talked, he called back and said Tom I want to make certain
you'll always be my friend, after the sale and that you'll still come and
have lunch etc. Laguna I will as long as you treat Howard with the respect I
believe he deserves. And Laguna you'll will not have a stronger defender
than myself so long as Howard declares you deserve it.

I am wondering, after everything is settled and done, if Axners will be
carrying all of the Laguna Clay as well as the "old" Axner clay bodies or
will they consolidate things?

I suppose it takes much time to integrate two companies. I will look
forward to seeing what the offerings will be.

Does this mean that Axner will begin to carry Laguna clays? I live near Axner, and I am a big fan, but
I prefer using Frost porcelain over Axner's porcelains. It would be wonderful if I could get everything
I need at the same location!

So are we going to be able to get Axner equipment over here on the
left coast without the huge shipping costs?

Hello Eric,

The Laguna/Axner merger is a superb opportunity for all potters in the
United States in ways such as being able to purchase Axner equipment and
clay on the West Coast and Laguna equipment and clay on the East Coast.

There will be many positive and productive changes that will effect all
potters Worldwide in the future.

Thank you for your inquiry.
