Mice nested in the fiber insulation of kiln door, leaving some holes I need to repair. What cement works to hold Kaowool patches in place?

Dear Jude Motzkin,=20

Rodents really like to tunnel don't they ! !

I used a mixture of 10% wt Liquid Sodium Silicate and 90% wt Kaolin =
mixed with water to a smooth thin slurry. If chemical reactions should =
happen during firing any compound created will not normally melt even if =
heated up to cone 12.

Best regards,

Ivor Lewis.

Well on our construction jobs we use just plain refractory brick mortar that=

has been thinned out a bit with water.

Jude,

I used to have constant rodent problems while living in Washington State.
They did severe damage to my Kaowool door and roof. I patched things with
sodium silicate and if it was a large area I would add an additional clay
"button" to give it extra holding power. You might also get some mouse
traps and leave them inside with some tasty treats: peanut butter works
great.

Now I have lizard problems:) they poop all over the place and in my opinion
are worse than mice (in the pooping department that is) Anyone have an idea
on how to reduce the lizard population? They lay eggs inside tall vases and
reproduce like crazy.

Good luck

Thanks. Do you mean that you used sodium silicate as the "glue" behind a fiber patch? That would be the solution that uses what I have in hand, which is good.
I have already made some buttons as well.

I am thinking of using sodium silicate mixed with kaolin and shredded fiber insulation. Of course I will protect skin and lungs when shredding fiber.
I am wondering about making it with colloidal silica as well. and of course ITC.
