accepting credit cards at shows

I have searched the archives and have gathered information from postings
going back to 1996 on accepting credit cards for sales at shows.

I have registered my business name (will be building a web site),
established a home based business, dealt with sales taxes, have gotten a
free business checking account with my bank and now plan to explore credit
card transactions.

I would like to hear from folks who have been doing shows and processing
credit card sales.

Did you find a company online that has met your needs, or did you go with
your local bank?
Do you get support when you need it?

I'm looking towards the future, when I retire from full-time teaching and
move to part-time teaching, full-time pottery making & selling.

FYI - Dick White - my retirement is not eminent, so don't start spreading
any rumors!

My thoughts are low set-up and monthly fees, without as much concern with
transaction rates for now.
I'm interested in the experiences of others who have been in business, doing
shows and accepting credit cards for some period of time.

Thanks, Bill

Bill,
The one thing that is really important about credit cards at shows is having
a cellular machine With that you get the approval immediately. If you don't
have a cellular model you store the acct. numbers then you get the approval
codes when you get home and hook it up to a phone line-which means if you took
a bad card your screwed keep in mind a bad card doesn't have to be stolen If
someone is over their credit line and they use the card not knowing that you
could lose that way as well. The company that is with the potters council
seems like a pretty decent deal

Bill.
The Potters Council has an arrangement with Paymentech, which has suited my needs and may suit yours.
Monthly fee is $3.50.
I bought a used Tranz330 on ebay (under $50) that we reprogrammed over the phone. You really don't need more than that to get going.
