slumping/collapsing rim on plates

I remember that my professor's said that the service rim on bowls could not
be thrown too flat or they would collapse - perhaps it is physics or? Does
the design need to be changed so that there is a bit more lift on the rim?
Someone who knows...?

Hi,
I think that you are either taking them out of the mould a little too =
soon, or your rims are too wide, if you "jellymould" them out of the =
moulds onto a board, rim down, keep them this way up for a bit: this =
might help. Dont do it so soon that the base slumps though. Also you =
could try a lower temp glaze, less movement.
