Just wondering if it is possible to use a sewing machine variable speed
pedal on my Brent model A potters wheel

I hate to put it this way because this isn't any reflection on you or your
abilities but this is one of those "if you're asking this question then you
don't want to try it" questions.

Your sewing machine is most likely an AC motor and your wheel is most likely
a DC motor. The pedal of our Brent CXC contains only a potentiometer to
control the DC being sent to the motor. An AC motor is usually controlled
differently, usually by chopping out some of the alternating current
waveform. So with different motor types, no, don't try it.

If both machines are DC, then you have component values to be concerned
about - will you be giving the controller of your wheel the proper input?
You will need to be able to test the two pedals to see if they produce
similar results.

If both machines are AC, then most likely you would really only have to
worry about the power handling capacity of the sewing machine pedal. I am
guessing that a sewing machine does not use as much power as a potter's
wheel, so you could easily overload the circuit.

Unless you have the electronics background or know someone who does, this is
just not a good idea.
