coyote glazes?

Karen,

I have those three also and generally use them over Laguna's cone 5 B
mix. I don't find Archie's Base too useful by itself either but
layered over some of their other glazes it gives some nice
effects. I recently glazed a bas relief tile with Archie's over
Coyote's Blue Green and it was very interesting, streaks of
red/purple. I'm not sure I'd want it on a dinner plate but it
brought my carved fish to life. I think the other 2 glazes are
better thick and I've found that they are more interesting if I use
the firing cycle from Mastering Cone 6 Glazes - slowing on the way
down. I believe that they use a buff colored clay at Coyote, thus
their samples would reflect this.

Regards,

Joan Klotz.

Randy,

I havn't tried the Oatmeal but I do have the other three. Shino is
just a nice easy to get along with glaze, darker where thin, creamy
where thick so it breaks nicely. It combines well with other glazes,
for example, it is great with Gun Metal Green over it and a friend
used it with a brush swirl of their Light Blue - nice. I havn't done
much with the Black , its a nice true black but its fairly new to me
and I havn't had time to play with it. The Red Gold, as I noted in
my response to Karen, was more interesting when the kiln was cooled
slowly on the way down and where the glaze was thicker. The crawl
glazes look like fun and I ordered the sample kit which includes
them, they should arrive any day now.

Hope they work well for you
Joan

Yes, I've used several of the Coyote glazes and generally been very
happy. I did not like their Dark Shino - didn't like the color - but
there was nothing wrong with the glaze per se. I first got hooked at
NCECA San Diego by their regular Shino and just placed another order
with them for several glazes at NCECA Portland. Not only do their
glazes behave beautifully but Martin Butts and everyone that I've
talked to at his company are really nice people - knowledgeable about
their product, friendly and helpful. If their are specific glazes
you might be interested in give me names, maybe I've tried them.

I would be interested in hearing about Coyote glazes also, especially the
crawl glazes.

Thanks,

Randy,

I have three of the coyote glazes, fired at cone 6 and have not been
particularly pleased with them. I keep trying to vary the thickness,
layering, clay body, etc, but I'm just not thrilled. I have Archies base,
Blue Purple and Red gold .

I'd be interested to find out if you were more suvccesful than I.

Karen
