Inge and Cindy,

Inge, we all have to learn patience and to deal with disappointment. Not
having made it into the Show, I am disappointed, but, heh, everyone can't make it.
Congratulations to those who did. As for getting our pieces back, well, we
need to recognize your dedication and what a great job you do. We should be
appreciative and not be complaining.

Wish I could see the Show, but I hope it will be on line eventually, so I can
see it there.

Cindy, congratulations on your acquisition of Wally's piece. He sent me
images, and they were great and unusual.

All the best

Veena

Veena, you certainly said it! (And thank you for doing so.) Inge is
very underappreciated and overcomplained-to. I know that Dad allowed
Orton to release the Cone Box Show to her and her alone (despite many
other requests) because he trusted that it would be in good hands. He
was absolutely right. I have known Inge for a number of years, even
before she resurrected the show. She has always been such an
incredible person, artist and teacher, probably one of the best I know.
Watching her manage this show over the past 12+ years has shown me
another dimension of Inge. She has always taken the work for this show
very seriously and personally, securing excellent jurors for each show,
not to mention the countless hours of unpaid, arduous work, for which
she is not thanked nearly enough. Dad is smiling down on her, beaming
at the level to which she has taken the Cone Box Show. I just wanted
to say that publicly.
For all of you who did not get in, please keep in mind that this show
is different every time because the jurors are different every time.
Getting in or not getting in is not as much a statement of whether your
work is "good enough" to make it, but rather how it fits in to the
concept of the show as a whole for that year. As an example, The last
show (or was it 2 shows ago? I think it was 2) featured a piece that I
absolutely had to have, much like Wally's piece this year. It was a
beautiful copper red pitcher with a dragon wrapped around the handle.
Sits on the mantle above my fireplace in my living room. I see it
every day. One of my favorite Cone Box acquisitions of all the shows
I've seen, I think. That piece was made by none other than Veena
Raghavan. This year, as she stated she didn't get in. I know Veena
understands, but in case there is anyone out there reading this who was
entering the show for the first time and does not plan to enter again,
please reconsider. Your piece might be the Belze Bub of the next show.
It just depends on who that year's jurors are and what they like.
On a separate note, Dingbat here forgot to take her digital camera to
the opening. I was just too excited about seeing the pottery that I
bounded out the house without it. I'll try to make another trip down
to Baker to take some pictures (provided that is permitted) and put
them up on either the Bracker's website or snapfish or flicker or
something. I'll let you all know when I get that done.
Best
Cindy
