Maurice,
Bravo! and well said.

As a beginners I think we all strive to
make our work as thin as possible, not
producing door stops. When it is too
thin? When you start burning your
hands on your tea bowls and coffee cups.
I LOVE wrapping my fingers around a
nice sumptous tea bowl or coffee cup on a cold day,
warming my hands, not blistering them! Oh
& my lips too!

Dinnerware is going to get knocked around.
Banged on faucets, dishwashers and other
stuff. Make the rims stand up to the abuse.
And if you have kids, make em stand up
to kid abuse!

Drives me nuts to see beautiful stoneware
bowls & plates with that skinny rim.

The La Mesa Show was exceptional!! I
filled my memory card with pix. I had
a little space left for the cup show entries.
If you are worried about copying, attend
NCECA! Rooms and galleries filled with
pottery, everyone expressing clay differently.

If you're worried about cost, email me!
It is not expensive to travel!! Cleveland to
Portland $250, if I had gotten my ticket in
Dec. would have been $139. Bed at the
hostel: $17 a night. Bus ticket for a whole week
with endless travel; $19. Food; cheap, did the
markets. Had one GREAT meal with
John, Liz, Ron, Suz, Heidi, Steve, etc at
and all you can eat sushi bar!! Wahoo and
worth every penny!! Buying stuff; don't
bring an extra suitcase! Bison tools worth
every penny!
All my best to everyone I met at nceca. It
was a mind bending experience! Still flying
by the seat of my pants! I came back a
different person, I came home a potter.

Hi Sandy,

Once I was back home I realized that we said hello, then a second "hi" and that was the end of seeing you at NCECA. No goodbye. I was really sorry about that.
However: I did hold, turn and turn over and nurture the cup and dish you made for the cup show. Everything about it was beautiful: the size, weight, design, decoration, colors and texture. It was the first piece I would have bought had I been there on time-one of my few regrets.
On the positive side: I can still feel it and memories don't break! I am imagining making something that fine one day.
Please say hello to Bubbles and I hope we will meet again! If you're ever in the NE PA or upstate-NY area, let me know!
