Alisha -

Here are the major public (sort of) studios in the Seattle area:

Kirkland Art Center (Kirkland, north of Seattle)
Pottery Northwest (Seattle)
Seward Park Art Studios (Seattle)
Alki Bath House Art Studios (West Seattle)
The Pottery School at Pioneer Square
Moshier Art Center (Burien, south of Seattle 10 min from the airport)

I teach, fire the kilns and have studio space at Moshier, which I highly
recommend that you visit. Of the studios in the Seattle area that offer
quality instruction, open studio time and nearly everything you could want
access to if you're a potter, Moshier has it all. Please email me off line
and I'll send you directions if you like.

Studios/classes attached to educational institutions include Tacoma
Community College, North Seattle Community College, Bellevue Community
College, Edmonds Community College, Shoreline Community College, Green River
Community College and The University of Washington.

Galleries: KOBO at Higo, KOBO on Capitol Hill, Glenn Richards Gallery,
William Traver Gallery, Bellevue Art Museum, Northwest Craft Gallery at
Seattle Center, Museo Gallery on Whidbey Island, The Blue Heron Gallery on
Vashon Island. There are more, but these are a few.

Hope to see you soon.

I'm going to be in Seattle, WA and Philomath, OR over the next week
and a half (starting the 27th -- half of the time each place). Can
anyone suggest any good pottery studios or galleries to visit during
this trip? Thanks, Leesh

Don't miss the opening of the annual Washington Potters' Association show at
the Northwest Craft Center (on the grounds of the Seattle Center, by the
International Fountain) on March 3 from 6 to 8 PM.

Alisha,

As far as galleries/museums go, here's a few:

KOBO - menjei & other asian arts. very nice
NW Crafts Center is a must. Almost all ceramics
Foster White - high end gallery which sometimes has clay
William Traver - also high end; predominately glass, but also has
ceramic work
Museum of Glass (in Tacoma) - no clay here, but amazing museum with a
very tricked out viewing "arena" with live demonstrations; multiple
glory holes. Chilhully funded.
Seattle Art Museum - Not bad for a small museum. Great food (oysters a
feature) across the street at The Brooklyn.

Philomath? Sounds like greco-bakery arithmetic!
Enjoy!

Alisha,

Note that the Seattle Art Museum is closed for expansion. Their old location, now known as the Seattle Asian Art Museum, houses their collection of ancient to more recent Asian pottery. It remains open during the expansion of the main branch.
