I would fire them to vitrification. Just for hygienic purposes so I can
wash them well.
Years ago I used dried beans for this purpose and, since the cookbook had
said it was ok, kept them. When I opened the jar a while later the smell of
rancid butter was overpowering. Never did that again.
I seriously like the idea of chain...kinda kinky.
