Join us in welcoming these two very knowledgable artists as
they present a comprehensive workshop on the fascinating world of
handmade tiles. Philip and Sin-ying will share their wealth of
knowledge on the history of tiles, methods and problems of making
tiles, decoration techniques, aesthetic considerations, materials and
firing. There will be an entire day dedicated to demonstrating various
techniques of decorating tiles ie... painting tiles, relief carving,
decal transfer, etc... Each participant will be asked to bring some
blank tiles in their own clay body to decorate in the class. For more

Sin-ying Ho received her High Honors Diploma in ceramics
from Sheridan College and a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and
Design. She has a MFA from Louisiana State University and has studied
at the Jingdezhen Ceramics Institute in China, was a visiting artist at
Harvard University and the Hong Kong Art School. Ms. Ho has taught at
The Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Southeastern Louisiana State
University and the Alberta College of Art and Design.=20

Philip Read has an MFA in Studio Art and Critical Theory and
a BA in Interdisciplinary Arts. He studied Eastern aart (Sumi-e,
Chinese Ink and Wash painting) for over 21 yers; and independent studied
at Jingdezhen Ceramic University in Jingdezhen, Jiangxu, South China.
