In late January, the Palouse Studio Potters Guild completed the installation
of a 40 cubic foot car kiln at the Law residence north of Moscow, Idaho.
see it at:

One challenge we faced was the great height of the building. nearly 20 feet
to the peak.
I designed a 12" diameter vent stack on 1.5" x 1.5" x 1/8" angle iron legs
that could be raised by two people the needed height and installed to accept
the 10" diameter exit flue with flue liners of kaowool.
To avoid excessive heat buildup, I constructed stabilizer clips that keep
the two pipes concentric so that the hot gas stream exiting the 10" section
stays centered in the larger pipe and prevents it from becoming too hot.
I employed the infrared pyrometer to measure stack temperatures during
operation and located the hottest point where it was expected, right where
the stack makes its turn upward.
There the temperature was 190 deg F.
call me if you need more details should you want to use this idea for your
own kiln.
