Hi Sarah & All,

I've gotten some very nice translucent pinks using
Mason 6000 Shell Pink stain. (3 to 10%)

This was cone 5-6.
The good news is that it's "only" about $15USD per pound.

The bad news is that it only works up to about 2,300F- around cone 8,
& is not recommended for reduction atmospheres at any temperature.

The other bad news- it contains Chromium Oxide, handle with care.

Also, the base glaze cannot contain zinc or magnesium,
& must contain 6.7% to 8.4% Calcium Oxide
(12-15% Calcium Carbonate)- a high calcium base.

Best, DMH
Beautiful Hermosa Beach CA USA
where they've declared La Niņa
and the southbound
Gray Whale migration census
is now up to 403
with 37 calves

Greetings from California!

Does anybody have a recipe for a pale pink transluscent glaze (preferably
cone 10 reduction)? I am looking for a barely pink (pink like the inside of
a seashell... delicately pink), glossy, transluscent pink that has the
pooling and breaking qualities of a celadon glaze. My research tells me
that this is a pretty tough glaze to formulate. I have looked into Embrium
rare earth oxide but cannot find a supplier. Has anyone used embrium
oxide? Do tell!

Will settle for any other high-fire temp, just want the glaze to have
celadon-like qualities.

Thank you for any imput whatsoever!
Sarah

Dear sarah;

You will find that Laguna has a good supply of rare earth oxides,
including Erbium. They have published an article including glaze
recipes and mixing instructions at

With erbium at $53.40/pound, I am glad you are enjoying sunshine in CA!
Say hello to the stars for us.

Cheers, Hank

Never heard of embrium. Could you be thinking of erbium?
I believe Laguna now stocks the rare earths.
