Thanks in advance for your help.
Cuerda Seca Tile Workshop at the Beach by Tzadi Turrou
Offered by Mud Bucket Pottery Studio and Gallery, North Myrtle Beach, SC
The workshop will be conducted by Tzadi Turrou, a renowned clay artist who=
=20
has studied, worked, and taught abroad and throughout the United States.=20
Tzadi designs and crafts colorful tiles ranging from small and decorative=20
to large architectural pieces. She consults and works with architects and=20
individual clients throughout the United States to design and make entire=20
kitchen black splashes, countertops, fireplace surrounds, bathrooms, and=20
floors. Tzadi currently lives and works in Burnsville, North Carolina.=20
Examples of Tzadi=92s work can be seen at www.chestnutmtcabin.com/id12.html
The workshop will explore and practice Tzadi=92s Cuerda Seca technique.=20
Cuerda seca literally means =93dry rope=94 and involves applying an oil=
based=20
black line to bisqued tiles. The resist line is screened, painted, or drawn=
=20
onto the tile. Then glazes are applied using eye droppers, bulbs, or loaded=
=20
brushes. The oil-based resist line acts as a dam for the water-based glaze=
=20
and becomes the black outline surrounding the designs after glazing and=20
firing. The technique follows an old Moorish resist and has flourished in=20
the Southwest during the late 19th and 20th centuries when it was used to=20
produce intricate polychrome designs. The oil based resist material now in=
=20
use was developed by Tzadi and is produced and sold by Axner Pottery Supply=
=20
under the name =93Waxline.=94
What to Expect:
Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of and practice in cuerda=
=20
seca tile making and complete the workshop with tiles that they have=20
designed and glazed. The tiles are suitable for everyday use. Tzadi will=20
bring her expertise and experience with clay in all formats to assist=20
participants in adding new dimensions to their work or hobby.
