Go for it, don't be timid, what have you to lose? do you plan to keep it
forever? I took an old freebe soft brick sculpture burnout kiln, backed
it up against a fire box, treated it with ITC and salt fired the stuffing
out of it for several years. At times to cone 14 and beyond just because we
could and it felt good to do it. Turned triagular posts pyroplastic once.
When the salt and wood fire finally was eating out the bricks above the
throat arch I took ceramic fiber, soaked it in more ITC (thanks to Mel for
this tip) and, with a hammer handle, ram packed the soaked fiber into the
damaged area. Gave it a final coat of fiber and ITC, touched up a few other
spots and fired three more years. still going but getting shakey when I tore
it down because i was moving.

Your gas fire and soda will be less corrosive. Fire away, enjoy. Tell us
of your experiences.
