To add one more.........a hardware type of firewall, such as a router,
is an excellent device to add to a system. It really helps to keep out
all but the most persistent of the hackers. Consider using Mozilla as a
browser and either Thunderbird or Eudora as for e-mail. Bill Gates
remains the biggest fish in the pond and his systems are the greast
target out there. To increase security and perfomance/stability to the
highest level with limits, give Linux a try.
Hope this helps

Spyware software is just as essential. I use Ad-Aware and Spybot
Search & Destroy. You can find them for free on the web.

Also, I have been testing my virus scanning software
against Avast and find that Avast will catch viruses that are missed by
Nortons or AVG. It also acts as a firewall. It is free to
individuals and you can find it here: http://www.avast.com/

Spyware software is just as essential. I use Ad-Aware and Spybot
Search & Destroy. You can find them for free on the web.

Show of hands, please.

Anyone out there using a Mac with OS X who uses ANY kind of spyware,
adware, worm, virus, Norton, McAfee, etc. software, raise your hands.

I didn't think so.

I've been using Macintosh for 20 years and NEVER used anything like it.

(The above is my once-yearly reaction to virus/worm, etc. postings
that the best antidote to most computer ills is a Macintosh.)

Actually, I haven't checked my cat for worms, but Buster doesn't do
Windoze, either.

Oh, yeah, if anyone wants to see pictures of the flood we had here in
Ross Valley in central Marin (Fairfax, San Anselmo), here is a link
to some pics taken by someone I don't know:

Regards,
Maurice

Not as obscure as you may think among potters. My data (trial
downloads of GlazeMaster) says 18-20% of potters are on Macs vs 4-5%
of the population as a whole. So the "ain't it awful blues"
frequently sung by the Windows users on Clayart amuse (or annoy)
quite a few of us.

Yes, there is an advantage in using an obscure operating system made
by an mp3 maker. ;-)
